Day 2 : Arrived in Asahikawa

This morning, we travelled from Sapporo to Asahikawa. The journey just took about 1 1/2 hrs. Perhaps due to insufficient sleep yesterday (I did not sleep during my flights and we slept at 2am this morning after settling down), I slept throughout the whole journey.

After checking in, we went out to have our lunch near the JR station. By error, we ordered the sets whereby there were both curry rice + udon and katsu don + soba. A bit shocked but we managed to finish all. They were all delicious.

Our intention was to take the 2pm bus to Higashigawa to view the Ice festival that took place today and tomorrow. Since we will miss the snow festivals that will take place all around Hokkaido main cities in early Feb, it was still nice for us to be able to catch this Ice festival at this town. As we were not too sure where was the bus stop to take the bus, we checked with the tourist information centre. They were too helpful and trying to ensure we get to the place correctly. All 3 staff there tried to find the information we need. So good. However, we missed the bus at 2pm and thought we could take the 2.10pm bus. But, we ultimately missed it by "seconds". We were already near the bus but the driver could not see us and drove off. Japanese punctuality is always No 1. No choice for us but to take the next bus at 3pm.

Today's weather was cold and we were shivering with cold when we reached the place. Not a very big place but the park was full of ice scruptures made by contestants. We took some picture but the temperature was really low that made us quickly took shelter at the nearby centre. Drank hot chocolate to keep us warm. We left the park at 4.30pm and thought we could take the 4.56pm bus back but in the end, we still miss the bus and had to take the next bus at 5.56pm.

The bus stopped near our hotel and just few steps, we were back. Glad to know that there was complimentary dinner and we ate a big place of curry rice each. So full that we thought of going to nearby shopping mall for a walk but realised all were closed at 7.30pm (it's already 8pm after our dinner). Eventually, we bought some titbits and plan to eat them in our room. Today we are back early so we shall play our NDS later.

That's all for now. Tomorrow we are going to the famous Asahikawa Zoo to watch the penquin parade. Hope tomorrow will have good weather. No snowing so that we can take more pictures. Till now, my camera only has 1 photo I took at the Asahikawa park. It was too cold that we did not even want to pose for photo takings. Ha ha...
